AUSTIN (Nexstar) — Republicans from Texas are weighing in on the evidence outlined during the first week of suspended Attorney General Ken Paxton's impeachment trial, with a range of opinions on the allegations. In Washington, D.C. Thursday, Senator John Cornyn, R-Texas, expressed grave concern for what he heard during the trial, telling a group of reporters he has been listening to proceedings when he can and that it has been "painful to watch.""It's deeply disturbing — the allegations that are made, some of the evidence," he said. Cornyn implied that the trial is warranted based on the facts of the case thus far, drawing contrast to the federal House impeachments of former President Donald Trump."Having been a veteran of two impeachment trials myself here recently, it's a unique process, but I think it's unfolding the way it should," he said. "I think the lieutenant governor has done a good job, making sure that it's not an overly politicized process and that Attorney General ...Vikings star receiver Justin Jefferson didn’t sign a contract extension. Now what?

The unofficial deadline for the Vikings passed with Sunday’s season opener at U.S. Bank Stadium. Unable to come to an agreement on a historic deal, the Vikings and star receiver Justin Jefferson will now presumably table any contract negotiations until the end of this season.“It is what it is,” Jefferson said. “I’m ready to focus on the season. That was clear as Jefferson was able to compartmentalize his frustrations and make nine catches for 150 yards for the Vikings in their 20-17 loss to the Buccaneers.“At the end of the day, all I can do is play football, and that’s what I’ll continue to do,” Jefferson said. “Just want to be here for my teammates and play for my teammates.”Though he has been humble throughout the process, consistently emphasizing that everything would work itself out eventually, Jefferson seemed to advocate for himself this week when asked about his contract extension.“I’ve done something that no one has ever ...Truck collides with sedan on Halls Ferry Road, 1 man dead

Here are the heroes and zeros from the Broncos’ 17-16 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday afternoon.HeroesBroncos run game: Running back Javonte Williams might become a case study. For a player who tore his ACL a year ago, he didn’t miss a beat. Williams carried the ball 13 times for 52 yards, including an 11-yard gain in the first half. Samaje Perine, whom Denver signed in the offseason, was even more effective with 78 total yards and a 20-yard reception in the final seconds of the third. Williams and Perine ran like two armored trucks — both hard to bring down with their legs always churning for extra yards.Related ArticlesDenver Broncos | Raiders 17, Broncos 16: Vegas retakes lead on Jimmy Garoppolo’s TD pass to Jakobi Meyers Denver Broncos | Broncos Super Bowl LVIII odds entering 2023 NFL season: What chances sportsbooks are giving Denver Denver Broncos | Kickin’ It with Kiz: Is Broncos coach Sean Payton itching to...Broncos report card: Special teams and costly penalties turn Sean Payton’s debut into a giveaway loss vs. Raiders

Offense — B-It didn’t take long at all in the 2023 season for Russell Wilson to get cookin’. In fact, he completed 17 of 19 throws for 125 yards and a pair of first-half touchdowns for the Broncos on Sunday against Las Vegas. While he and Denver didn’t pile up yardage, Wilson played efficiently, completed passes to 11 different receivers and looked in command of head coach Sean Payton’s offense. Raiders star Maxx Crosby made an impact, but Denver chipped and helped enough to limit him to one sack. The run game didn’t get going until the second half, though Javonte Williams looked fast and powerful in his return from a major knee injury last year. Denver, though, went three-and-out after Las Vegas took a 17-16 lead, and at the end of the day put only 16 on the board. That’s not going to win many games.Defense — C-This unit expects to be one of the NFL’s elite groups under Vance Joseph. Instant reaction from the Broncos’ 17-16 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in Sean Payton’s head coaching debut at Empower Field at Mile High.Opening moments: It began with former Broncos receiver Mark Jackson imploring the fans with a Bud Light tallboy. It built with former Broncos defensive end Derek Wolfe towel-waving them into a lather. And it hit a crescendo with the Broncos recovering an onside kick … almost. So, head coach Sean Payton’s first act of the preseason was to bash anyone and everyone who had a parking space at Dove Valley last year. And his first act of the regular season was to do a call-back to perhaps his greatest call (surprise Super Bowl onside) at his last stop. Say this for Payton, he sure knows how to make an introduction.Related ArticlesDenver Broncos | Raiders 17, Broncos 16: Vegas retakes lead on Jimmy Garoppolo’s TD pass to Jakobi Meyers Denver Broncos | Broncos Super Bowl LVIII odds entering 2023 NFL...$1.08B California Powerball jackpot still unclaimed

This summer was marked by not one, but two record-setting lottery jackpots that ballooned at the same time. The first to pop was a $1.08 billion Powerball jackpot won in California, and the other a $1.602 billion Mega Millions jackpot hit in Florida.Yet we still don’t know who the winners are. Will we ever? The short answer is yes, but it could be a while. It’s most likely the Powerball winner we’ll get to know first. A ticket matching all six winning numbers drawn on July 19 — 7, 10, 11, 13, and 24, and red Powerball 24 — was sold at the Las Palmitas Mini Market in downtown Los Angeles. Can a lottery jackpot winner remain anonymous? Not in these states Initially, it was believed the lucky winner was spotted at the store just days after the drawing. But the granddaughter of the store’s co-owner later told Daily Mail that woman wasn’t the winner. The real winner has yet to be confirmed. In California, winners of such large payouts have one full year from the da...Jackson racks up sacks, stealing Bosa’s spotlight in 49ers’ win over Steelers

PITTSBURGH — It turns out that Nick Bosa’s contract holdout did not keep him completely out of the loop with the 49ers, especially when it came to Drake Jackson’s progress.“I was watching tape throughout the holdout,” Bosa said. “It was clear as day he’s made strides, with his work ethic, his preparation and all his moves out there.”Jackson produced three of the 49ers’ five sacks in Sunday’s 30-7 rout of the Steelers to open the season.“He’s really been detailed and put on some weight and he’s still moving like he moves. He’s going to be dangerous,” added Bosa.Safety Tashaun Gipson was thrilled to learn that Jackson, his locker-mate in Santa Clara, had as many sacks Sunday as he did all of last season as a rookie.“Drake doesn’t talk that much. He’s got an old soul. I couldn’t be happier for a guy like that,” Gipson said. “We know he’s a good player, and having him make a statement like that is ...Inside the team meeting that SF Giants hope can propel them into the postseason

SAN FRANCISCO — What can a team meeting accomplish? A regular feature of many clubhouses over the years, it’s something that’s easy to credit when it’s followed by success and equally easy to dismiss when it doesn’t lead to the desired results.“I’ve always been against meetings,” Giants reliever Luke Jackson said before their series finale against the Rockies, ESPN’s Sunday night game of the week. “I’ve been a part of most meetings and we lose afterward and they’re terrible. But this year, we’re 2-0 after meetings.”The latest, first reported by the San Francisco Chronicle, came Friday, before their first game against Colorado, and the message came from on high. President Farhan Zaidi was first to address the group, but speakers also included longtime coach Ron Wotus and a handful of veterans. What followed were back-to-back wins, their first of September after starting the month with six straight losses. The team also responded to...Latest news
